EMC Entertainment - Havelock - One of the iconic voices of southern rock will touch down at the 23rd Havelock Country Jamboree.

Lynyrd Skynyrd will have everybody and the trees boogying when they hit the stage in August. Through tragedy compounded by tragedy the Florida rockers still serve up a sound that has left an indelible mark on the North American music scene and selling over 30 million albums.

They will certainly deliver the goods this sum-mer.

The 2006 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band, with core members Jimmy Van Zant on vocals and guitarists Gary Rossington and Ricky Mediocke, has overcome the devastating 1977 airplane crash that claimed three of its members: Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines and backup singer Cassie Gaines, the subsequent deaths of Huey Thompson, Leon Wilkinson and Allen Collins and the most recent passing of Billy Powell and Ean Evans during the recording of their 2009 album God & Guns.

It's going to be quite a show in Havelock.

"We love the music, it's bigger than the money, it's not even about that any more," says Van Zant. "We have to make a living, sure, but it's about the legacy of Lynyrd Skynyrd, and what it stands for, what the fans are all about. There's nothing like getting out there playing a great show with Skynyrd and seeing people love this music."

"We're still standing, still keeping the music going," says Rossington. "We wanted to do the guys who aren't with us any more proud, and keep the name proud, too."

The Jamboree continues to add to its entertainment lineup for the four-day festival so stay tuned for more.
